Rotterdam Centraal won the prestigious Rotterdam Architecture Award 2014, at the prize-giving event on Wednesday December 17th.
The city of Rotterdam is becoming an Architecture City pur sang. A city that now is recommended in tourist guides from all over to visit for its architectural and urban qualities. That not only has more and more remarkable and iconic buildings, but now also got a beautifully and well-designed public space and sidewalks that bind these buildings together. To let them be even more beautiful, as Winy Maas mentioned during his speech ‘I love Rotterdam’.
The jury, lead by Janny Rodermond, unanimously voted station Rotterdam Centraal as the winner of this year’s edition of the award. “The new Rotterdam CS is a project that deals with cultural historic layers, coherence in urban planning and is future-oriented. It’s an expressive building with architectural quality that contributes to the streeflife of Rotterdam. This quality is felt by everone: from the most cynical architecture specialist tot the everyday train passenger. The jury makes a deep bow.”
