The new facade of the new University Library

In April of this year, the UvA organized a competition to come up with a theme for the facade screen of the new University Library. The winning theme, which had to be related to the humanities, will be incorporated into the design for the facade screen. The facade of the new University Library is covered by a facade screen of 10 meters high by 50 meters wide. Read more about the completed process.

The jury assessed all entries in July and did not come up with a winning theme. MVSA Architects has adapted the design of the facade screen to the theme 'words and sentences' that has been proposed in several entries. The words and sentences should have a relationship with the Faculty of Humanities and connect humanity through the sciences. The Spatial Quality Commission of the Municipality of Amsterdam approved the architectural design at the end of October. In January 2021, a working group within the UvA will come up with the definitive words and sentences that will be incorporated into the technical design.
