Designed by MVSA Architects and Stefano Boeri Architetti, Wonderwoods integrates an urban forest across two mixed-use towers, combining housing, offices and public amenities with extensive vegetation. The project incorporates 360 trees and 9,700 plants, creating a new layer of biodiversity within Utrecht’s dense urban environment.
Climate resilience is embedded in the design through measures including rainwater harvesting, which helps manage heat stress and pluvial flooding while supporting the vegetation during periods of drought. Sensor-driven irrigation and a 25-year maintenance partnership further support the long-term performance and adaptability of the landscape.
Wonderwoods achieves BREEAM Outstanding for its office spaces and BREEAM Excellent for its residential units. The project demonstrates how high-density urban development can contribute to biodiversity, climate adaptation and a healthier urban environment.
